The Office of Delinquent Tax Collector in Laurens County is under the general supervision of the County Treasurer and is operated by the appointed Delinquent Tax Collector.
On March 17th each year all delinquent taxes are turned over to the Delinquent Tax Collector for collection. The South Carolina state statutes prescribe the tax sale collection procedure in Title XII, Chapter 51. You may review that code section for the details.

Q. When will the next Laurens County Tax Sale be held?
A. By state law, the sale must start on the first Monday of a month and is usually held in November or December. See our website for this year’s date.
Q. Where is the tax sale held and what time does it begin?
A. It is held at the Hillcrest Square Complex Center located at 100 Hillcrest Square, Laurens, SC. All bidders are encouraged to register prior to the sale. Check the newspaper ad for the time the sale begins.
Q. When and where do you advertise for the sale?
A. The sale is always advertised in “The Extra”, a Saturday publication of the “Laurens County Advertiser” for three consecutive weeks prior to the sale. Visit their WEB SITE.
Q. Can you send me a list of the liens that will be available?
A. No, but you can get that information from the newspaper or visit their website.
Q. Do I need to register for the sale and is there a fee for this?
A. All bidders are encouraged to pre-register for the sale. Please see the link on our website or come by the office and pick up a registration form. There is no fee to register.
Q. What form of payment do you accept?
A. The bid must be paid in full at the end of the sale. We accept cash, postal money orders, cashier’s check, certified check, MasterCard, or Visa.
Q. What happens to the liens that are not sold at the auction?
A. The opening bid is placed on behalf of the Forfeited Land Commission. If no other bid is received, the property may be available for assignment from the FLC.
Q. Can I bid without attending (via mail, or a representative)?
A. No mail bids are accepted; however, some companies do send a representative.
Q. If I end up with a property, does the county handle the foreclosure process?
A. The county will issue the successful bidder a tax deed. The bidder is responsible for quieting the title. Please consult your attorney for this process.
